TikTok to Launch Music Streaming Service in India

After his huge success in the field of social networks in recent years, TikTok owner ByteDance wants to enter the music streaming service. It is believed that the company has already acquired streaming rights from Indian record labels such as T-Series and Times Music.

According to a new report from FT, the company is also currently in talks with Universal Music, Sony Music and Warner Music about global licensing agreements.

According to the report, the service may be launched next month, but only in select markets such as India, Indonesia, and Brazil. The company is also reportedly planning a trip to the US. However, this will only happen after it has acquired the rights of global music labels.

ByteDance’s music streaming app will also include “a library of short video clips that listeners can listen to and sync with songs as they listen”, the report said.

There’s no other word on the subject right now, so we do not know the name of the app or the subscription plans, but it’s not hard to believe that the prices will be at least as high as those of Apple Music and Spotify, both less than $ 10 a month in the US and even less in India.

ByteDance has to compete with established players in India such as Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Gaana and JioSaavn to break into the fiercely competitive market.

In that case, it will be interesting to see if the company can turn current TikTok users into paying subscribers to its music streaming service.
