Spotify Launches Video Podcasts For All Users Globally

Spotify has launched video podcasts for all users globally on its mobile app and desktop version.

This is Spotify’s latest major development in podcasts following a string of exclusive deals.

To start, Spotify users have access to some video podcast shows like Book of Basketball 2.0, Fantasy Footballers, The Misfits Podcast, H3 Podcast, The Morning Toast, Higher Learning with Van Lathan & Rachel Lindsay and The Rooster Teeth Podcast.

  • The video podcasts play automatically when users set them to Spotify.
  • Users can also lock their phones and the sound continues to play in the background.
  • According to Spotify, video podcasts consume minimal data.
  • Video podcasts can be played both in the Spotify mobile app and in the desktop version.

Spotify started testing video podcasts with YouTube stars Zane Hijazi and Heath Hussar in May. Spotify currently only allows selected creators to create videos for their podcasts.

The streaming service will most likely expand it to other developers on its platform.

Joe Rogan’s The Rogan Experience will be added shortly, whose video podcasts (vodcasts) will be streamed on Spotify from September 1st.

Spotify signed an exclusive contract with Joe Rogan in early May.

Just last week, Spotify announced the Michelle Obama podcast starting July 29.

Spotify has completed a few more exclusive podcast deals with Warner Bros. Group and Archie Comics.

The Spotify had also released top and trend podcast charts recently.
