Facebook Quietly Launches Whale, a Meme Creation App for iOS

Facebook has released a new app called Whale, a Meme Creation App for iOS users. This app was only launched on the App Store and currently only available to users in Canada. With the new Whale app, users can create their own memes.

This app allows users to use pictures from their cell phones, apart from stock photos. You can then use text, effects, and other tools to create your memes. Facebook’s NPE (New Product Experimentation) team developed the Whale app.

The Whale, Meme Creation App is the new experimental app from NPE, which according to Apptopia – cited by The Information – is currently only introduced in Canada. The free app has no hidden subscription rates and allows you to use a variety of editing tools to create a meme.

Users can take a real-time shot, select from their camera roll, or browse through the library of archive images. You can then add creative text, emojis, filters, and popular effects to make the meme more contextual and humorous. These creations can then be saved and shared on social media or news threads.

Features in the meme creation app include two-, three-, four- or blank-screen layouts, a freeform drawing tool, emojis, and customizable sticker options, and effects such as laser eye, whirl, bulge, and more.

The information report also quotes a Facebook spokesperson who said that the apps launched by the NPE team should be able to shut down quickly and help the company find new features and services that users like.

This may be a test app that may never be published outside of Canada, or it will be made available to a broader audience after the tests are completed. Currently, you can find the app in the Canadian App Store.
