Facebook Merging Instagram, Messenger: Report

Facebook has been planning to merge all of its services, including Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp, for quite some time. According to a new report, Facebook is offering its Messenger chat app on Instagram.

According to a report by The Verge, Facebook is showing Instagram users on Android and iOS pop-ups letting them know they can use Messenger through the photo-sharing app.

After the update, the Instagram app will embed the messenger functionality and add more emojis and functions, for example, swiping to reply and the ability to “chat with friends who use Facebook“. Also, users can give their chats a colorful look.

While the company is showing the update, Instagram users will not be able to use the functionality, as per the report.

This could be the final step in Facebook’s efforts to bring individual products and apps closer together.

Over the past two years, Instagram and WhatsApp have been renamed to alert users that the apps are owned by Facebook.

Mark Zuckerberg, chief executive officer, has announced plans to integrate all of the company’s messaging services.

Instagram, the photo-sharing app which Facebook acquired for $715 million in 2012, has more than 1 billion users and generated more than a quarter of the social media company’s sales last year.

The Instagram direct messaging team reports to the Facebook Messenger team and the company is changing the branding from Instagram to “Instagram from Facebook”.
