Apple New Smartwatch But For Your Finger, Patent Revealed

Apple has already made a lot of noise on the market with its Apple Smartwatch series. Apparently, Apple is working on a New Smartwatch, a new type of wearable based on a patent granted by the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The new patent is titled, “Devices, Methods, and User Interfaces for a Wearable Electronic Ring Computing Device” and was originally filed in April 2012 and was granted on October 15, 2019.

The patent describes a wearable ring device with a touchscreen that includes a processor, a wireless transceiver, a rechargeable power source, and a microphone connected to the computer processor. The computer processor is housed in the annular element to which the wireless transceiver is electrically connected. This wireless transceiver will also be configured to communicate with at least one external electronic device, where a “first predefined hand gesture” may cause an action to take place on the connected external electronic device.

In addition, a voice command, a finger tap or a hand gesture can be used to control the actions on an external device via the wearable ring. Additionally, the ring could also include haptic feedback, a dial, and a motion sensor for rotating gestures. It could also include a phone module for making calls. Overall, however, it is clear that this “smart ring” is not a stand-alone product and instead works in combination with another device such as an iPhone or an iPad.

It should be noted, however, that although the features of this new ring type wearable       device will be different, it is not a completely alien concept. In fact, Smart Rings have been in the development stage for years and have only recently gained attention, as some brands have incorporated different technologies into these tiny devices. Among the few features built into these smart rings are fitness trackers, NSC chips, or SOS buttons that work while you stay connected to your phone or other external device.

With respect to the Apple patent, there are no details as to when or whether this new “ring” -like Apple wearable device will be commercially available. However, we cannot wait to see how Apple behaves with this new Smart Ring.
