Apple has finally unveiled its new high-end AirPods Pro: INR 24,999 wireless headsets with active noise cancellation, water resistance and a battery life of up to five hours.
AirPods Pro not only gets a new name, it’s the latest Apple device with the “Pro” label. They also differ significantly from previous AirPod generations. Because they are noise-suppressed, they feature flexible silicone tips that help seal the ear more completely. The cordless charging case offers an additional battery life of 18 to 24 hours and is shorter and wider than previous AirPod versions.
Besides the new design, the biggest change is the long-established active noise cancellation, which sounds similar to the noise cancellation in Beats Solo Pro. “Active Noise Suppression on AirPods Pro uses two microphones in combination with advanced software to continuously adapt to the particular ear and headphone customization,” writes Apple.
And like the latest Beats headphones, the AirPods Pro also has a “transparency” mode that lets you amplify ambient noise so you can follow what’s going on in your environment without taking off your earphones.
The noise reduction, however, has some effect on the battery life. When noise suppression is enabled, the battery life is between three and a half to four and a half hours, compared to five hours when it is off. The noise reduction settings can be adjusted via the Control Center on your iPhone or iPad.
Another notable change: AirPods Pro are the first AirPods with water resistance. Apple notes that they are not completely waterproof, so you still can not swim while you’re wearing them, but it sounds like they can withstand most wet weather and sweat.
AirPods Pro are powered by the same H1 chip as Apple’s second-generation AirPods, so you can seamlessly pair them with any of your iOS devices. With updates in iOS 13, AirPods Pro can also leverage Siri’s audio sharing and ability to read news.
